Please VOTE NO to keep the Auditor’s Office as an elected position!
- 1991 – ILAG Opinion – “For the reasons hereinafter stated, it is my opinion that the county board may not use its budgetary powers to circumvent the auditor’s internal control of his office, or refuse to appropriate sufficient funds for equipment and staff. Moreover, it is also my opinion that the county administrator cannot properly delegate accounting functions to the county treasurer, since these functions have been delegated by law to the auditor.
- 2007 – Peoria County Finance Department created.
- 2017 – Summary of Peoria County’s multi-year reassignment of the auditor’s statutory duties to the administration, finance, IT, county clerk and treasurer’s departments creating duplicative services at additional taxpayer expense for several years.

Why Should You Vote No?
Reassigning Duties
Peoria County has illegally reassigned the Auditor's statutory duties to other departments resulting in duplication of services at additional taxpayer expense.
Biased Language
The Auditor Referendum on the November 8, 2022 General Election ballot uses language to attempt to persuade voters to vote "yes" in a manner that is not free and fair.
Referendum Filed Late
The Peoria County Clerk filed the “wrong” referendum on time, and four days after the deadline filed the “correct” referendum
nunc pro tunc.
Open Meetings Act Violations
The County changed the Agenda Brief for the Auditor Referendum and posted it online without marking it as revised.
Process for Referenda Resolutions
The ILCS does not provide for an apparent conformity process for Referenda Resolutions from a local unit of government.
“Double Standard” Documents
There appears to be a “Double Standard” for the government and citizens with respect to the accurate and timely filing of documents.
